How to Use the Random Letter Generator
Step-by-step instructions to get the best results
Select Which Letters to Include
Use the preset buttons to instantly filter to All 26 Letters, Vowels Only (A, E, I, O, U), or Consonants Only. For custom sets, click individual letter tiles in the A–Z grid to toggle them on (colored) or off (grayed out).
Spin the Alphabet Wheel
Click the SPIN button or center hub. The 26-segment wheel spins with vivid multicolor segments and decelerates smoothly to land on a single letter. The active letter count badge updates to show how many letters are currently in play.
Reveal and Use the Chosen Letter
The winning letter appears in the celebration modal. Announce it to your players or class — start your Scattergories round, call out the phonics prompt, or begin your alliterative writing challenge.
Remove Letters to Avoid Repeats (Optional)
Open Settings and enable "Remove Winner After Spin" to eliminate the chosen letter after each round, ensuring all 26 letters are covered in sequence — ideal for systematic spelling bees or alphabet phonics drills.

Preschool & Elementary Phonics Lessons
Teachers use the alphabet wheel to engage young learners in letter recognition exercises — spin the wheel, identify the letter's sound, name a word that starts with it, and draw it on a whiteboard. The celebration effects keep children excited.
Creative Writing & Alliteration Challenges
Writers and writing groups use the tool to generate random letter constraints for creative challenges — writing a six-sentence paragraph where every word starts with the spun letter, or creating character names using only the chosen alphabet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Random Letter Generator
Can I remove tricky letters like Q, X, or Z for word games?
Yes. Click the letter tile for Q, X, or Z in the A–Z grid to deactivate it — the tile grays out and is excluded from all future spins. Re-click to reactivate at any time. The active letter count badge reflects your current pool.
How do I switch between vowels and consonants?
Use the one-click preset buttons above the letter grid: "Vowels Only" activates only A, E, I, O, U while deactivating all consonants; "Consonants Only" does the reverse. "All (A-Z)" resets every letter back to active.
Can I spin letters without repeating any in a session?
Yes. Go to Settings and enable "Remove Winner After Spin." Each spun letter is automatically removed from the wheel, guaranteeing you cycle through your selected letters without repetition — perfect for sequential phonics drills.
Is there a way to see which letters have already been picked?
The Results tab in the side panel logs every selected letter in chronological order with timestamps, letting you keep track across a full game session.
Does the wheel work for languages other than English?
The default wheel is pre-loaded with the 26 Latin letters A–Z. For other alphabets, you can use the generic Decision Wheel, type in custom characters as entries, and spin that instead — any Unicode character or emoji is supported.
